Leaving your dog at home when you go on holiday can be hard, but fortunately, it is not always necessary. There are plenty of dog-friendly options for holiday and getaways in the UK to suit different budgets. Here are five suggestions.

The Lake District is a well-known area of rural beauty and a favourite for those who want spectacular landscapes and great air while on holiday.  It is also very popular with dog-owning families, and often known as the canine capital.

You can find dog-friendly restaurants and an assortment of quaint cottage dwellings and log cabins to accommodate you and your furry four-legged companion.

Wanting to visit the capital but unsure whether you can leave your dog behind?  No problem, London has a range of hotels open to pets, in various price ranges.  At the upper end, an example is the Ampersand hotel in Kensington, while for value there is City Space in the trendy Borough district.

If you choose the last locations, you can dine out at nearby Pizarro Restaurant, and afterwards see a movie at a Picturehouse independent cinema. This could all follow an afternoon ramble one of London’s many dog-friendly outdoor spaces such as Battersea Park.

If you fancy a country-style holiday, but the Lake District is a bit too far for you, you could try the Forest of Dean area in Gloucester, South West.  This is a massive 527 square Km area that covers several parishes, and where there is an assortment of dog-friendly places to stay and eat.

The Forest of Dean is an open access area with a lot of opportunities to walk your dog. Take a look at some on the Wye Valley website.

It may be that the sun and beach are more on your agenda, and where better to go for this in the UK than Cornwall?

On the county’s North Coast, there’s Harbour Cove, right near to the town of Padstow. You can hire dog-friendly lodgings or cottages here, or at various other coastal sites in the UK.  If Cornwall is too far, try underrated Milford on Sea near Bournemouth.
