Stew for dogs – D.I.Y recipe

During the Medieval period, only those at the top of European society were able to keep pets in any civilised way. Gaston III, Comte de Foix (1331-1391) wrote that dogs should be kept in kennels made of wood, at least one foot from the ground, and have fresh straw added each day. Dogs of the nobility were also fed stews.

To make a 21st-century style version stew for dogs:

YOU’LL NEED

1 lb stew meat

1 potato

1 sweet potato

1 cup chopped carrots 1/2 cup water

1tbsp olive oil

DIRECTIONS

  1. Remove potato skins and cut them into chunks.
  2. Bake pieces for approx. 10 minutes.
  3. Heat the pan with oil and cook the steak pieces.
  4. Remove the steak when done, then add flour and water to the pan.
  5. Stir until thick, then add carrots, steak and potatoes.
  6. Heat for about ten more minutes.
