BOREDOM BUSTERS - FOR DOGS

Since Covid 19 struck, many of us found it harder to get out with our dogs, or at least this was the case for a high proportion of the last two years. There were lockdown restrictions, a gradual opening up, and now it’s autumn (almost winter)! We learnt that in staying home, we could spend more quality time with our dogs, but also that it could also mean cabin fever - both for dog and owner.

Here then are our choices for keeping our mutts occupied during times that might otherwise lead to boredom.

WUFSALAD

Forgive us for taking this opportunity to unashamedly (but proudly) namedrop our own best-selling product! There are various ways to stop dog-boredom, such as being creative in how you feed them. Using the WUFSALAD to distribute some of their food is one solution. You can also use the WUFSALAD to train your dog as they snuffle and find the hidden treats. See our dedicated website for more details!

KITCHEN ROLL

A lot of people are familiar with the paint advert dog, and the rolls of toilet paper. Other methods of food distribution can be self-made, such as with an empty kitchen/toilet roll tube. Place some food inside it, and block the ends with newspaper. Wrap other goodies in a newspaper too, and put them all in a box for your pup to unravel. Supervise your dog whilst playing, or else it could get a bit messy!

HUNT

If you want something easy to encourage your dog to hunt for his food, you can take a bowl and scatter it over the garden. It will ensure they take a while to sniff out the kibble and other parts of their dinner, slowing down eating time and using extra energy.

FROZEN TREATS

Alternatively, you may consider dispensing frozen treats. Use an ice cube tray to sprinkle bits of treats or food mixed with broth in each section and freeze. It can also be a fun way to deliver food that can keep your dog occupied for long periods.
