As the Dogtor says in the article How to avoid: Easter dangers to dogs, it’s really important to keep human chocolate away from your pets. If you want to include your dog, then why not make your own dog-friendly Easter egg?
Here’s how to do it:
You will need…
- Several packets of dog chocolate drops (these do not contain theobromine, and are not real chocolate)
- An Easter egg mould
- A heatproof bowl
- Saucepan
- Spoons
Directions
- First, empty the doggy chocolate drops out of their packets, and into the heatproof bowl.
- Fill the saucepan with water and heat on the hob. Put the heatproof bowl on top, and wait for the water below to melt the drops in the bowl. Stir while this happens.
- Next, dampen the insides of the mould using a piece of kitchen towel and a flavourless oil such as sunflower oil. This will help separate the doggy drop substance from the mould.
- Then, take the spoon and fill the mould with the melted drops evenly around the inside of the mould. When you have done this, place the two halves in the fridge.
- After setting, separate the sides from the mould. You can put whatever suitable treats inside (i.e. no chocolate!) in one of them. Place some melted safe doggy chocolate around the edge of one of the halves and seal them both together.
- When cool, you can wrap a ribbon around it, as well as with cellophane.
Your dog-friendly Easter egg will now be ready.
